Why take AP?
AP classes approximate, and sometimes exceed, the level of freshman college courses. They offer a way to prepare yourself for the challenges to come, as well as explore topics in an academically intense environment.
Some reasons students choose AP classes:
Many colleges award credits for respectable AP test scores.
AP courses are weighted, so they help your GPA.
Students who enjoy learning benefit from each other's company, and the rigorous environment it creates.
Because often times, "taking it easy" is boring. |
A few things you should consider:
If you want the college credit, make sure the colleges to which you apply accept it.
It is most often advantageous to get credit for classes not directly involved with your planned major. Many colleges prefer that you follow their major program from the beginning.
AP classes are tough. If you're in it for the GPA, remember that the class is weighted because it's supposed to be harder to earn an A or a B.
Everyone wants to earn an A, but someone who really enjoys learning can earn a C and still consider it a positive experience. |
